Marriage

Congratulations on making the decision to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage in the Catholic Church! Marriage is the Sacrament by which a baptized man and women by their mutual consent establish between themselves a lifelong partnership, with God as their foundation, that is ordered toward the good of both spouses and the procreation of children. The graces bestowed upon the couple during their exchange of consent afford them special helps to fulfill their lifelong commitment to God and to one another.

The marriage formation process at St. Mary is a catechumenate, during which couples enrich their relationship with one another and with Christ while being accompanied by the Parish clergy, staff, and community.

Couples should plan 9-12 months to complete the Marriage Catechumenate. The period of the catechumenate is designed to give each couple time to reflect on marriage as a vocational calling, deepen their relationship and life of prayer, prepare necessary documents, and complete their personalized Catechumenate. Please see the Marriage Catechumenate page for more details or contact the St. Mary Marriage and Family Life Coordinator for more information.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to all married couples making the self-giving sacrifice of time and talent to serve as sponsor couples for couples preparing to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage. For further information and details about being a sponsor couple, please see the Sponsor Couple Ministry page or contact the St. Mary Marriage and Family Life Coordinator: Christi Sollenberger: 619-859-1425
